Pray for the souls of
MARCELLA LAKE,
died 13th Nov. 1872,
and her infant children.

Marcella Lake née McDaniel, was the daughter of Fencible Edward McDaniel and his wife Sarah née Kelly, who arrived in New Zealand on the "Clifton" 23rd January 1848. She was born at Auckland 13th December 1848 and married Frank Lake at St Patrick's Cathedral, Auckland 1st January 1867. It is believed the children referred to on her tombstone were Albert James, born 1868/263, died 1869/1 [died 1868 but death entry losted as first in1869] and Annie Marcella, died of dysentery 21st July 1870 at the Thames, aged 3 months. The Death Indexes list Marcella Lake died 1869/62 and Frank Lake died 1869/452. There are no Lake deaths recorded in 1872/73 so while the above date is easily readable on the tombstone, where it comes from is unknown. Where Frank Lake is buried and what happened to any other children the couple may have had is also unknown. Had there been two Marcella Lakes, there should be a reference on the death Index for 1872. The numbers given are year then followed by the folio number.
