Description - 5' 11½", brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, 39, good character, labourer. Served 22 years 6 months, two good conduct badges. Discharged with an ulcer and varicose veins. Married at Naas, Irleand 1828, with 3 children according to the Treasury Pension Register. His address in that volume was given as Chapel Street and his date of death is given in the Register as 7th January 1885. This man applied in 1858 for land to be granted to him as discharged soldier and is understood to have been given control in 1857 for a bi-weekly mail service linking Auckland, Otahuhu, Onehunga and Papakura.

"Discharged in New Zealand" by Hugh and Lyn Hughes states Patrick Coyle was a labourer, born at Kilallan, County Cavan, enlisted 20th February 1828. He arrived in Sydney on the "Sir Robert Peel" 18th January 1845 and at Auckland on the "Slains Castle" 22nd April 1846 and was discharged at Auckland 10th July 1850.

Family of this Patrick Coyle say the name Barnet should read Bernard and has obviously been altered by the priest entering the information into the registers.
