The top half of this stone being missing, the 1958 transcription has been used, such portion in brackets. The Suffrage Centennial Women's Register lists Frances Berry née Carroll as the daughter of an Irish Fencible. The only Fencible known with this name was Timothy Carroll and his wife, Ann née Gill, who arrived on the "Berwick Castle" in 1852. As no manifest survives for this ship, we cannot check his children to verify the accuracy of this information. If indeed, the Suffrage Centennial Women's Register is correct, she probably was this man's daughter. There were four children in Sergeant Carroll's family - Mary, birth year unknown, Catherine, born circa August 1851 died September 1852 at sea, Bridget born 7th October 1854, buried 19th April 1855, John born 14th May 1857, believed to have died young and possibly the above Frances, born circa 1859 but the only birth to found for Carroll in 1859 is Bridget 1859/3891 at Auckland. St Patrick's Marriage Index at Auckland Public Library reads John Thomas Berry married Frances Carroll 17th July 1878. Timothy Carroll died 8th March 1863 and his wife married secondly James Healy 2nd February 1866 at St Patrick's Cathedral, Auckland.
